Seven thousand square feet of dance floor

1939

In August 1939 the Mary Jane Studios dance academy announced its move from downtown to “spacious new quarters at East Eleventh and Harvard with 7000 square feet of space,” complete with a new ballroom instructor. The lodge floors built for degree work and installations turned out to be ideally proportioned for dance classes.

Director Mary Jane Reynolds ran classes at the corner into the early 1940s, one more life the building absorbed without changing its bones.
