The superintendent of the temple
1941
In June 1941 the building’s superintendent, P. H. Obenour, age 70, climbed to the roof to watch a work crew and died in a fall. His is one of the quietest names in the building’s record, and one of the most important: the man whose work kept a foreclosed temple standing, sound, and rentable through its hardest decade.
