The tower that was never built

In September 1956 Southwestern Fidelity announced a $600,000, four-story, fully air-conditioned office building for 207 E. 11th, with an aluminum front and a self-service elevator: “the first building of its size in the Heights area.” Five months later the company moved to Montrose instead.

The tower would have replaced the shop row. Its cancellation, whatever it meant for the company, preserved the building’s original street wall. Some of the corner’s luck is the projects that never happened.
