A school at the corner

1938

From September 1938 election notices list a Seventh Day Adventist school at “11th and Harvard” as a Heights polling place, and it served again in 1947. Which building at the corner the school occupied is not settled: it may have used the temple’s empty assembly space, or another hall at the intersection. The same month, 3,000 square feet of the building was offered for lease as “suitable Heights business” space.

The Post’s classifieds of November 19, 1938, shown below, offered the corner store too: “EAST 11TH, 201—Modern corner, 48x63, busy street, community center, parking.” The shop row was being kept up even in the leanest years.
