The War Apartments and Midcentury · 1943–1965

Offered for sale

1965

In October and November 1965 the agent Joe Ridings advertised the “commercial building 1102 Harvard (corner Harvard and 11th, 1 block east Heights Blvd)”: a “storearea 5,946 sq. ft. presently leased,” an “office area 3842 sq. ft., recently vacated,” and “3 stories 3842 sq ft each for storage or conversion to apartments,” with a parking area, “for sale or lease.”

The ad offered the three stories for storage or conversion to apartments, though the building had held apartments since 1943; whether any were still let in 1965 is not recorded. The county’s deed index shows International Fidelity had already deeded the building to Walter G. Cook on September 22, 1965 (file C164335), weeks before the ad ran. The listing closed the building’s mid-century chapter and opened its quietest one, and its measurements remain useful today.
