Other lodges listed at the old temple

1949

Reagan Lodge’s departure did not end Masonic use of the corner, but this particular listing proves less than it seems. A Post lodge column of March 29, 1949 shows Woodland Lodge No. 1157 and Heights Lodge No. 1324 meeting at the “Heights Masonic Temple, 11th and Harvard.” The same column still lists Reagan Lodge “at Temple, 8th and Harvard,” three months after Reagan had dedicated its new hall on Heights Boulevard, so the column was carrying at least one stale notice, and its other entries may be stale too.

Firmer evidence comes from dated notices with named officers: Reagan Commandery at “Reagan Masonic Hall, 11th and Harvard” in 1953, Jacques DeMolay Lodge at “Reagan Hall, 1100 Harvard” in 1961, Melrose Commandery at “Melrose Temple, 1100 Harvard” in 1963. The building the Masons built kept doing Masonic work under other names.
