A commandery moves on

1977

Earlier versions of this entry said that in September 1977 a Knights Templar commandery’s printed notices still gave its address as 1100 Harvard. The Post’s lodge column of September 10, 1977, shown here, does not: Melrose Commandery No. 109, which had called the old lodge room “Melrose Temple, 1100 Harvard” in 1963, now held its stated conclave at 13106 Chrisman Road. The same column shows the Grand Lodge of Texas leveling the cornerstone of a public elementary school in Pasadena, a reminder that Masonic cornerstones were never reserved for lodge buildings.

Whether any Masonic body still met at the corner in 1977 is unconfirmed; other bodies listed the “Heights Masonic Temple, 11th & Harvard” into the 1980s (Chapter 5), and some of those listings may be stale copy.
